words: from Godfrey Devereux the originator of the Resilience Trainings
Resilience Training is about finding and being lived from your Place of Greater Safety. This is not a geographical place. It is the deep core of your being: the spiritual heart of human nature. Then, whatever transformations and tribulations arise can be met with courage, dignity and grace. Being lived from your place of Greater Safety you will be able to honour and celebrate the whole of life in the living of your own. You will start to prioritise giving over getting, sharing over accumulating, supporting over exploiting. So that then you may live in harmony with others, with nature, with the world, with life.
Resilience Training allows you to develop new neuromuscular habits. Because of the binary nature of the sensori-motor nervous system, changing habits of movement changes habits of perception. As you start to move more freely and easily you start to see and think more clearly. As you practice you establish new Pathways of Wholeness between your body and your Spiritual Heart. As they replace your old habits you begin to feel more centred, more safe, more at ease. Not only in your body, but also in your life and in the world.
insulation from your Place of Greater Safety leads to chronic anxiety, isolation, inadequacy, & defensiveness all of which are deeply entrenched in having been normalised as the foundation of social dynamics
There are five Somatic Resilience Trainings underpinning Radical Ecology:
Embodied Resilience establishes Pathways of empathy and love (the foundation for somatic embodiment)
Deep Resilience establishes Pathways of pleasure and peacefulness (experiencing the pleasure nature of your body)
Sexual Resilience establishes Pathways of fearlessness and joy (allowing sexual energy to support your vitality and creativity)
Emotional Resilience establishes Pathways of courage and authenticity (assimilating emotional and physical pain)
Engaged Resilience establishes Pathways of solidarity and generosity (embodying the interconnectedness of all beings)
